The commitment to eating differently, and specifically to cut sugars and carbs, came from a variety of sources. I decided it was time for me to try it, and am now in the action phase. Just do it. As with any decision, it's with the action step that detail and meaning begin to show.

I've seen that this commitment is a cycle of three steps:

awareness
                                   learning
                                                                    action

new awareness...................................etc.

So far the awareness is in several areas:

                    physical            emotional/spiritual               functional

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Physical includes measurements: weight, waist size, and so on. All very tangible.
                                                   and observations:
                                    itchiness, skin reactions
                                                   and
                               sleep, digestion, strength, flexibility

Emotional/spiritual includes feelings about the low-carb commitment:
                temptations, discouragement, confidence, obsession
                                                   and
feelings about other parts of my life:
work
marriage
family
travel
                                                    and
                                                      feelings about the future

Functional includes daily compliance with my own promises:
                                       low-carb diet
                                            water
                                          exercise
                                                       and
continuing to keep my other promises (see other parts of my life, above)

So that's awareness, and that's enough for tonight. I'm aware of being sleepy--

carbjourney2012

10-20-2012:

I have just re-arranged the freezer, so that one bin is carb-free vegetables, meats, nuts, and cheeses. The other bin is more carbohydrate-rich: peas, corn, breaded meats, ravioli, etc. That step done, I am a bit closer to my goal of honoring a commitment to eating very-low-carb for eight weeks.

So far it's been ten days; I've honored the regimen, can't say I like it yet. I'll be recording my journey as it unfolds.

Heading off for a bike ride, as part of the plan is to include daily exercise as well.
